Information to Students and Parents
2012 Annapolis Valley Regional Science Fair March 27, 2012 to March 30, 2012

(a) registration and set-up of projects 2:00 - 7:00 p.m.
All projects must be set up within this time period. Please bring your "Safety and Ethics" form to the registration.
Secondary Judging day is Wednesday, March 28
All grade 7 - 12 students. Secondary first round judging 9:00 to 12:00 (Students should arrive by 8:45 am) Secondary second round judging from 1:00 to 4:00 that same afternoon.
- *Not all students will be asked to return for the second round but students should be prepared to stay if asked.
- Those students staying for the second round of judging will be served lunch.
- Elementary Judging day is Thursday, March 29
Gr. P- 3, 9:15 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. (non competitive) Gr. 4- 6, 10:15 a.m.- 12:30 p.m.
You may visit the Fair on Thursday afternoon and evening (2 p.m.- 7:30 p.m.) and Friday (9:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.)
(The science fair committee cannot be responsible for any projects remaining after Friday 4:00 p.m.)
Therefore students or parents or teachers must pick up projects on Friday: Not before 1:00 pm and continuing to 4:00 p.m.
Students or the parents/guardians of the students receiving awards will
be notified by their school Thursday or Friday
The ceremony takes place in the Nova Scotia Community College Gymnasium in Middleton, NS from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Friday, March 30th.
1) The Regional Science Fair Committee does not provide transportation to participants.
2) Students should bring a book or quiet activity on judging day. Participants are asked not to bring food or drink; a drink will be provided.
3) Valuables must be removed from the project following the judging period.
4) Parents are not permitted in the judging area. Please arrange to drop off and pick up your child. You may visit the fair on Thursday or Friday.
5) Safety and Ethics: Please have your signed project proposal and safety assessment forms with you on Tuesday, March 31st for registration. IMPORTANT: If you used either vertebrates, human subjects, or dangerous materials/and or apparatus in your research please be sure to have the appropriate supervision completed and signed forms with you at your project. 6) Project Display: A maximum space of 1.2m wide x 3.5m high will be provided per project. (some engineering projects have been given more room however we do not recommend you count on this possibility) Projects must remain on display at the Regional Fair site for the duration of the fair in order for the student to be eligible for medals and /or awards.
7) Canada Wide Eligibility:
Four Grade 7 to 12 students will be chosen to represent the Annapolis Valley
Regional Science Fair at the Canada Wide Science Fair which will be held in Charlottetown, PEI in May 2012.
8) All projects must comply with the Policies and Regulations of the Canada Wide Science Fair.
1) Dress neatly.
2) Introduce yourself and your project.
(Introduce your partner if you have one.)
3) Attempt to answer every question asked by the judge.
Never say, "I dunno," give it your best try.
4) Smile and be pleasant. Don't be defensive about your work. The judges are professionals who are trying to bring out your best with their questions and comments.
5) Have signed project proposal and safety assessment forms with you at your project.
When students arrive their parent or guardian will be asked to sign a waiver to take a photo that will only be used for a presentation that is displayed at the Awards Ceremony. The photos are not posted or displayed on the internet.
Winners of major awards may have photos taken the night of the Awards Ceremony as these photos are sent to the sponsors of the major awards as a thank you.
